Arsenal produced a statement win as Mikel Arteta's full-strength side thrashed Sporting 5-1 in Lisbon to boost their chances of automatic Champions League qualification. Arsenal put in three first-half goals through Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Gabriel to put the Gunners 3-0 up by the break. Second half goals from a Saka penalty and a Trossard header finished the job. The result moves Arsenal into seventh, above their Sporting Lisbon on goal difference. As away games in the UCL go, this was Arsenal's best performance in years. Their challenge now is to consistently replicate this form against the more established Champions League sides.
