Early on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to the tomb, only to find it empty. What followed was a moment that changed history forever: Jesus is alive! "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said." (Matthew 28:6) As dawn broke on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to visit Jesus’ tomb. Their hearts were heavy with grief, believing that Jesus, their Teacher and Savior, lay behind the stone. But something miraculous awaited them. "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." (Psalm 30:5) Reflection: Even when life feels heavy and dark, God's promises bring unexpected joy in due time. Suddenly, there was a great earthquake, and an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes white as snow. The guards trembled and became like dead men out of fear. "For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory." (Deuteronomy 20:4) Reflection: When God moves, no obstacle—no stone, no guard, no power—can stand against His will. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.” The angel invited them to see the empty tomb and commanded them to go quickly and tell His disciples. "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God." (Isaiah 41:10) Reflection: In moments of fear, God reminds us through His Word and His messengers: do not be afraid, for He is with you. As the women hurried away, filled with fear and joy, Jesus met them on the road. They fell at His feet, worshiping Him. Jesus reassured them, saying, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” "The Lord is near to all who call on him." (Psalm 145:18) Reflection: When we seek Him, Jesus meets us personally, comforts us, and sends us with a purpose. The story of the Empty Tomb is a powerful reminder that Jesus is alive and victorious over death! It teaches us that God brings hope when we least expect it, that His promises never fail, and that we are commissioned to share the good news.
