Pregnancy, also known as gestation, is the time during which one or more offspring develops inside a woman .It is a unique period in a woman’s life and there are many changes are happening to her body during this period. various drugs can be used during pregnancy after doctor's consultation, so pregnant women must be aware for the safety of drugs during this period. Antibiotics are the drug which are used to inhibit or to kill the bacteria. Any drug taken by the women in pregnancy me be teratogenic or harmful to fetus. Teratogenicity depend on the dose , route, and duration of drug administered and the period of pregnancy. Some medications may be used sparingly during some trimesters and contraindicated in others. In this video we have discussed categories of some drug according to FDA, these are category A, B, C, D, and X, such as , folic acid, levothyroxine are included in category A means that can be safely during pregnancy. Category B includes acetaminophen(Paracetamol), Amoxycillin, Clindamycin, Ibuprofen, and cefixime etc. In this category some drug like cefixime , amoxicillin considered safe but these drugs should be taken under medical supervision.
