Good evening and welcome to the celebration of the Holy Mass for Monday of the 1st week of Lent. Our Gospel Reading is the familiar story of the last judgment and the separating of the sheep from the goats. In our reading from Leviticus we hear of the directives of what we should not do such as not to steal. As we reflect upon these two readings, what comes to mind is that they are an enfleshment of the 10 commandments where we are given 'rules' to live by. What the Lord is giving us is the commandment to love. We are to treat others with love and respect. We are to go out to the poorest of the poor and show them caring and compassion. Remember the words of the Lord: "Just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me". May your Lenten journey be filled with many opportunities to extend a willing hand to someone in need. Maybe it is just a smile that will brighten somone's day. Our Responsorial Psalm is Psalm 19: "Your words, Lord, are spirit and life".
