Stop Shrinking Yourself

Would you like to express your ideas in a meeting but you wait so long until someone else says what you wanted to say? Do you overanalyze your improvement ideas until you talk yourself out of expressing them? Have you ever felt frustrated that you have tremendous knowledge to share but your inner dialogue holds you back? Do you constantly apologize? Are you a people pleaser who is looking for approval from others? Do you try to fit into a place that you have outgrown? Stop shrinking yourself! It is important that you believe in yourself and your abilities. Today I would like to give you my ABC strategy that will help you to show up differently: Accomplishments: Make the time to write down everything you think about that you consider as one of your accomplishments: small or big, it doesn’t matter – highschool completion, immigrating to Canada, buying a house, having children, getting a job, changing jobs, getting a promotion. If you have on paper what you were able to accomplish, it will make you more confident. Behaviour: How do you want show up in the world? Who do you want to be? What do you want to believe about yourself? I encourage you to have as role models people you admire and model their behaviour. Observe how they walk, talk and interact with others. It is important to be authentic but this doesn’t mean that you cannot develop new skills that will serve you to be at your personal best. Courage: Start small by trying new things and you will develop courage. Think about something that you are afraid of doing and do it anyway. Learn a new skill. Approach a stranger. Ask for help. Admit a mistake. Learn a new sport. Learn public speaking or paragliding. People develop at different paces and it is important to honour where you are and know where you want to be. ABC – ready, set, go! This was my thought for today and I will see you next week again.
