New Super Mario Bros. 2 originated in Japan on July 28, 2012, for the Nintendo 3DS handheld; sales in Europe and North America began shortly thereafter, with the game being the first in Nintendo's history to be available as a download. Another first for Nintendo's games was the option to download additional content for a fee, thus expanding the game. The title was developed by the in-house studio Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development, led by Yusuke Amano. As in previous games in the Super Mario series, in New Super Mario Bros. 2 the player takes on the role of plumber Mario, who must rescue the kidnapped Princess Peach from the clutches of a villain and overcome all sorts of adventures along the way. The gameplay is heavily based on that of its predecessor, New Super Mario Bros. The gameplay, the design of the levels, the controls, and the technical implementation received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics worldwide. The lack of new gameplay content that significantly differentiated itself from its predecessors was criticized. With nearly eight million copies sold by March 2014, it is one of the most successful games for the Nintendo 3DS. Just three months after its release, the sequel, New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U, 2012), was released. New Super Mario Bros. 2 was developed by Software Development Department No. 4 of Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development (EAD). Department head Hiroyuki Kimura and EAD manager Takashi Tezuka served as producers. The previous NSMB games had also been developed by EAD 4. Shigeru Miyamoto, who co-founded the Mario series with Tezuka and heads EAD, served as general producer. Yusuke Amano acted as development lead for New Super Mario Bros. 2, marking his debut as a video game director. The programming was handled by Systems Research & Development (SRD), an external company cooperating with EAD. Nintendo employees outside of EAD also participated in the game's development, having been trained as level designers for this purpose. Level design began before the underlying game concept was finalized. This approach is the opposite of the usual video game development method. #newsupermariobros2 #newsupermariobros #nintendo #nintendo3ds ☆ Enjoy Let's Play "New Super Wario Bros 2" ❗ ☆
