This action-adventure game, developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, launched globally on November 9, 2022. It is the ninth installment in the God of War series, continuing the saga introduced in God of War (2018). Setting and Story Overview God of War Ragnarök is set in the rich world of Norse mythology, expanding upon its predecessor with a deeper focus on exploration and open-world gameplay. While God of War (2018) allowed access to six of the nine realms, Ragnarök brings the remaining three into the fold: Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, and Asgard. Midgard, once the central realm, has been drastically altered by Fimbulwinter, a three-year-long winter that began at the end of the previous game. The once navigable Lake of Nine is now frozen over, and Midgard itself has become a frigid wasteland. Other returning realms, such as Alfheim, Helheim, and Niflheim, feature expanded exploration and character-driven content. Taking place three years after the events of God of War (2018), Ragnarök follows Kratos and his now teenage son, Atreus, as they traverse the nine realms in search of a way to prevent Ragnarök, the apocalyptic event prophesied in Norse mythology. At the same time, they seek to uncover the truth about Atreus' identity as Loki. Along the way, they encounter new allies, such as Týr, the Norse God of War, and face off against powerful adversaries, including Thor, the Norse God of Thunder.
