COLUMBUS, Ohio — The 10 Weather Impact team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for late Wednesday afternoon and overnight into early Thursday morning because of the potential for severe weather. What you need to know about the severe weather threat -Timing: One batch of scattered storms may develop after 4 or 5 p.m., mainly northwest of I-71. Another line of storms moves into central Ohio after midnight and exits around 5 a.m. -Main threats: Damaging wind gusts appear to be the biggest concern, but brief tornadoes, heavy rainfall, and hail are also possible. -Risk Levels: Most of central and western Ohio are under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe weather. The highest risk area is farther west, extending through parts of western Ohio. -Stay Updated: Because most of the storms are expected overnight, make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and alerts while you're sleeping. 10 Weather Impact Forecast: Latest on the storms A storm system will move into the Central U.S. today, kicking off thunderstorms to our west. An initial cluster of thunderstorms might develop in western Ohio this afternoon and evening, mainly after 4 p.m. If these form, they would mainly happen west of I-71. If conditions come together, these storms could be severe. A bigger line of storms comes in during the overnight hours. These may still be severe when they arrive in Ohio overnight. Damaging wind gusts appear to be the greatest threat, but brief tornadoes within the line are also possible. Heavy rainfall and hail are also possible. The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of central and western Ohio in a Level 2 risk area for severe weather, mainly for the overnight hours of Wednesday into Thursday. A higher Level 3 risk extends from western Ohio and back into Indiana and Illinois. The most likely time for storms to impact the entire 10TV viewing area should be after midnight Wednesday night and before sunrise on Thursday.
