Balázs Szép on Várpalota
Horse riding, fencing, shooting, swimming and running. This is modern pentathlon! Come and support the sportspeople at the European Modern Pentathlon Championships between 14 and 18 September and enjoy the excitement of this sport, which has a long history. If you want to explore before or after the competition, Balázs Szép, a world championship bronze medallist, recommends Várpalota: “Visit Várpalota and see the Thury Castle. Here you will find a museum of castle and local history, an exhibition of torture instruments, a collection of folk costumes and a history of uniforms. After the Thury Castle, visit the Zichy Palace with its Trianon Museum, the Bátorkő Castle and the sand mine in Várpalota. If you want to rest during your trip, you can choose from exciting restaurants, cafes and cake shops." Did you know? The Zichy Palace was rebuilt at the end of the 1800s, and the work was led by none other than Miklós Ybl.
