Seed Sowing (Raw Coated Seeds) on Paper Towel

In this video, this is how i do seed starting or seed germination process of growing any leafy greens, this this video, these are raw seeds of Lettuce, lollo bionda and romaine. Step-by-Step Process for Seed Germination on Wet Paper Towel Gather Materials: You’ll need a paper towel, a resealable plastic bag or container, water, and your seeds. Prepare the Paper Towel: Moisten the paper towel thoroughly but ensure it’s not dripping wet. Too much water can lead to mold growth or cause the seeds to rot. Place the Seeds: Spread the seeds evenly on one half of the damp paper towel. Leave space between each seed to prevent roots from entangling. Seal and Store: Place the folded paper towel in a resealable plastic bag or container. This traps moisture and warmth, creating a mini greenhouse effect. Create Ideal Conditions: Place the bag in a warm, dark place (e.g., a drawer or cupboard). Optimal germination temperatures vary by seed type but generally range from 20–25°C (68–77°F). Check Daily: Inspect the seeds daily for signs of sprouting and to ensure the towel remains damp. Spray water lightly if it begins to dry. When to Transplant Seed Sprouts to Hydroponic Medium Timing: Transplant sprouts when they have a root length of about 1–2 cm and possibly a small shoot or cotyledon (seed leaf) starting to emerge. This stage generally occurs within 3–10 days, depending on the seed type. Avoiding Delays: Waiting too long may cause the roots to grow into the paper towel fibers, making them harder to separate, or result in overly delicate sprouts that can be easily damaged. Transplanting to Hydroponics Prepare the Hydroponic Medium: Ensure the grow medium (e.g., Rockwool, cocopeat) is moist and has stable pH and nutrient levels. Handle Gently: Carefully lift the sprout by holding the seed or cotyledon, avoiding the delicate root. Place in Medium: Insert the sprout’s root into a pre-moistened hole in the grow medium, allowing the stem to sit slightly above the surface. Common Mistakes to Avoid Overwatering: Avoid soaking the paper towel or hydroponic medium. Seeds need moisture, not saturation. Temperature Fluctuations: Maintain a stable warm environment to prevent germination delays. Handling the Roots: Avoid touching the root itself during transplant to prevent damage. Timing: Don’t leave sprouts too long on the paper towel to avoid weak, leggy sprouts that may struggle to thrive. #indoorhydroponics #urbanfarmer #indoornutrientfilmtechnique
