CATHOLIC MASS Solemnity of Christ the King - 21/22 Nov 2020 - LIVESTREAM
HOW ARE YOU SERVING THE KING? The Jews were hoping for a just and glorious political king. Yet Jesus the King was born in a poor little village, lived in the district of Galilee, was raised as the son of a carpenter. He was a king not of this world. He took his throne to the cross, with a crown of thorns. He gave every drop of his blood for men. On the cross, He won for us the victory over sin and death. How did the crowd treat Jesus? They pressed upon Him when they needed something. But when He was nailed to the cross, the same people stood at a distance and watched. They did not draw near and be with Him. There were a few exceptions; the repentant thief was one of them. With his errors and troubled soul, he turned to Jesus. There, he experienced the victory and power of grace! Jesus' agenda is service to mankind. The kingship of Jesus is expressed through his humble service of sweat and blood. It is realised by giving and not by taking. - 'If I the Lord and master wash your feet, you too must wash one another's feet'. Today's gospel uses the parable of the sheep and goats to describe the necessity of service. 'When I was hungry' - describes the cries of those who are hungry, naked, homeless and imprisoned which are both physical and psychological. There is the hunger to be wanted, loved, affirmed. There is the need to be clothed with dignity, purity and self-respect. There is the want of home of welcome, care and acceptance. There is a crying need for freedom from oppression and addiction. There is a call to serve the King by serving the poor, the needy and the marginalised. "In so far as you did to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me." MASS READINGS .
