Numbers 33-34 //Experiencing God 365 Days Through the Bible - Day 68
God is a God of boundaries. And we will see that today in Numbers 33-34 But first welcome to Experiencing God 365 Days Through the Bible - Day 68 Numbers 33-34 Today Moses reviews all of the places the Israelite community has stopped and camped at since they left Rameses/Egypt. If you can google a map of the exodus, it’s interesting to see all of the stops along the way. At the end of chapter 33, we see God give moses specific instructions for entering the land of Canaan. These were the instructions: Numbers 33:52-56 you must drive out all the people living there. You must destroy all their carved and molten images and demolish all their pagan shrines. 53 Take possession of the land and settle in it, because I have given it to you to occupy. 54 You must distribute the land among the clans by sacred lot and in proportion to their size. A larger portion of land will be allotted to each of the larger clans, and a smaller portion will be allotted to each of the smaller clans. The decision of the sacred lot is final. In this way, the portions of land will be divided among your ancestral tribes. 55 But if you fail to drive out the people who live in the land, those who remain will be like splinters in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will harass you in the land where you live. 56 And I will do to you what I had planned to do to them.” Basically wipe the land clean of any ungodly thing .. don’t leave any wiggle room for worshiping false gods and drive the people out who will not worship me. So there’s no temptation – God wanted them to remove all temptation to sin. His instructions are always for our good. In Chapter 34 God gives moses specific instructions for the land and how it is to be divided/what the boundaries should look like. 34:13-14 13 Then Moses told the Israelites, “This territory is the homeland you are to divide among yourselves by sacred lot. The Lord has commanded that the land be divided among the nine and a half remaining tribes. 14 The families of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already received their grants of land 15 on the east side of the Jordan River, across from Jericho toward the sunrise.” So God puts Eleazer the priest and Joshua son of Nun in charge dividing up grants of land among the people. Chapters 33-34 are short so here is an interesting fact about the Dead Sea which serves a separation between the eastern boarder of the promised Canaan where 9.5 of the tribes lived and the western boarder where the other 2.5 tribes lived. The Dead Sea is 34% salt Regular ocean water is 3.5% salt Which is why nothing can live there .. but in Ezekial 47 and Zechariah 14 we see prophecy about a day when the dead sea will have freshwater and be full of fish. What stood out to you today? God is a God of boundaries. Whenever He gives his people boundaries though it’s for their good. Not to be legalistic as some would think, but boundaries are always about protection. Like, comment, share, subscribe God loves you. He sees you. He has a plan for you.
