Completion of the summer shade border in the Upper Quarry garden & tour of the plants used

The new shade border which was started last year is now complete. In the spring it comes to life with bulbs and early perennials and is a delightful spring garden, but now it has a dual function as a summer shade border. Below is a list of plants used to create the summer shade border, all sizes are approximate dependent on growing conditions and are winter hardy in the UK. To my knowledge all are widely available in the UK & Europe. Astilbe Delft Lace - Height & Spread 60cm x 45cm (24in x 18in) Cotinus Dusky Maiden - Height & Spread 2.5m to 2m (8ft) Hydrangea macrophylla Red - Height & Spread 1.2m (4ft) Hakonechloa macra Aureola - Height & Spread 25cm x 30cm (10in x 12in) Asplenium scolopendrium (Hart's tongue fern) - 45cm x 45cm (18in) Heuchera Lime Marmalade - Height & Spread 25cm x 45cm (10in x 18in) Ophiopogon - Mondo Grass - Height & Spread 20cm x 30cm (8in x 12in)
