Labour party is 'very concerned' about no-deal Brexit

The Brexit Secretary dismissed 'doomsday' scenarios about the consequences of failing to strike a broad trade deal with the bloc. He said he was still 'confident' there would be an agreement - but the government was taking steps to 'protect the UK'. The comments came ahead of the release of the first batch in a series of 'technical notices' advising businesses and the public on what they need to do to prepare for a no-deal scenario. The documents are thought to include a plan unilaterally to scrap checks on almost all goods arriving to avoid chaos at the border. There will also be fixes so that expats will be able to access their pensions, while the government will commit to underwrite EU funding for aid and other projects that could be withdrawn.
