N. Hanff Hymn Lyrics Hymn 204 – Thou didst leave thy throne 1. Thou didst leave thy throne and thy kingly crown when thou camest to earth for me, but in Bethlehem's home was there found no room for thy holy nativity: oh come to my heart, Lord Jesus; there is room in my heart for thee. 2. Even foxes found rest, and the birds had their nest in the shade of the forest tree, but thy couch was the sod, O thou Son of God, in the deserts of Galilee: oh come to my heart, Lord Jesus; there is room in my heart for thee. 3. When thou camest, O Lord, with the living word, 'twas to set all thy people free, but with mocking scorn and with crown of thorn, then we bore thee to Calvary: oh come to my heart, Lord Jesus; now thy cross is my only plea. 4. Heaven's arches shall ring and its choirs shall sing at thy coming to victory; let thy voice call me home, saying, 'Yet there is room, there is room at my side for thee!' My heart shall rejoice, Lord Jesus, when thou comest and callest me. Hymn 493 – How blessed are the ones who hear 1. How blessed are the ones who hear celestial Wisdom’s voice, and who her kind instruction make an early, only choice. 2. For Wisdom’s treasures greater are than east or west can hold, and her rewards more precious far than all their stores of gold. 3. In her right hand she holds to view a length of blessed days, and honours, rich with splendour are what her left hand displays. 4. God’s Wisdom is a tree of life whose fruit will never cease; her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. Hymn 208 – In the cross of Christ I glory 1. In the cross of Christ I glory, towering o'er the wrecks of time; all the light of sacred story gathers round its head sublime. 2. When the woes of life o'ertake me, hopes deceive and fears annoy, never shall the cross forsake me: lo! it glows with peace and joy. 3. When the sun of bliss is beaming light and love upon my way, from the cross the radiance streaming adds more lustre to the day. 4. Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure, by the cross are sanctified; peace is there that knows no measure, joys that through all time abide. Hymn 778 – Lord, you give the great commission 1. Lord, you give the great commission: “Heal the sick and preach the word.” Lest the Church neglect its mission and the Gospel go unheard, help us witness to your purpose with renewed integrity; with the Spirit’s gifts empower us for the work of ministry. 2. Lord, you call us to your service: “In my name baptize and teach.” That the world may trust your promise, life abundant meant for each, give us all new fervor, draw us closer in community; with the Spirit’s gifts empower us for the work of ministry. 3. Lord, you make us common holy; “This my body, this my blood.” Let us all for earth’s true glory, daily lift life heavenward, asking that the world around us share your children’s liberty; with the Spirit’s gifts empower us for the work of ministry. 4. ... 5. ... Hymn 20 – The steadfast love of the Lord Refrain: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. Your mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning, new every morning; great is your faithfulness, O Lord, great is your faithfulness! 1. You, Lord, are my portion, says my soul; therefore I will hope in you. Refrain 2. ... Refrain 3. ... Refrain 4. ... Refrain
