Reaction to gay marriage in Obama's 2015 State of the Union

President Obama's 2015 State of the Union address included this line about same-sex marriage rights: "I've seen something like gay marriage go from a wedge issue used to drive us apart, to a story of freedom across our country, a civil right now legal in states that 7 of 10 Americans call home." The Supreme Court Justices, as shown on camera, had little reaction; but a clear divide between the two major parties was evident as Democrats rose to applaud the remark while Republicans sat stone faced.
