Some of the Joker's gang members are also there. Batman suspects the Joker wanted to be captured, so he follows him into the asylum. The Joker escapes with the help of a corrupt guard and kidnaps Commissioner Gordon. He threatens to blow up bombs around the city if anyone tries to enter Arkham, so Batman has to work alone. Batman fights through the asylum, dealing with various challenges like the Scarecrow’s fear toxin and rescuing Gordon. He then faces Bane, who the Joker frees to fight Batman. Batman defeats Bane and later learns that the Joker was after a new drug called Titan, which makes people stronger and more powerful. The Joker wants to use it to create superhuman monsters. Batman destroys the drug formula but doesn’t stop the Joker from stealing it. Meanwhile, the Joker injects people like Poison Ivy with Titan, making them more dangerous. Batman needs an antidote, so he tracks down Killer Croc for some rare ingredients. After getting what he needs, Batman returns to stop Ivy and her mutant plants from destroying the island. The Joker eventually injects himself with Titan, turning into a monster. Batman fights him and his mutated henchmen, refusing to use the Titan drug. After defeating the Joker, the mutated people return to normal, and the Joker is arrested. Batman hears about another crime happening in Gotham and leaves in the Batwing. In the post-credits scene, a crate of the Titan drug is floating in the ocean, hinting the Joker’s plans aren’t over yet. Batman: Arkham Asylum is a 2009 action game where you play as Batman, trying to stop the Joker, who has taken over Arkham Asylum and trapped you inside with a bunch of dangerous criminals. He also threatens Gotham City with hidden bombs. The game lets you control Batman from a third-person perspective, using his combat skills, stealth, gadgets, and detective work to defeat enemies and solve puzzles. You can explore the asylum, interact with characters, and complete side missions to unlock extra content. The combat is about chaining together attacks and dodging hits, while stealth lets you quietly take down enemies using the environment. The game was made by Rocksteady Studios, starting development in 2007 with a small team that grew over time. It was inspired by Batman comics and graphic novels. The game’s design went through changes during development, including removing some enemies and plot elements to better match the overall tone. Arkham Asylum was released in 2009 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows. It was a huge hit with critics, praised for its story, atmosphere, and gameplay, though the boss fights got some mixed reviews. Many people called it the best comic book game ever. It won several awards, including Game of the Year. A remastered version was released in 2016, and it was also made available on Nintendo Switch in 2023.
