Cases of the mosquito-borne illness have doubled in the Badung Regency, which covers some of Bali’s most heavily populated tourist spots. Associate Professor in Pathology Chaturaka Rodrigo told Yahoo News Australia “The typical symptoms include sudden onset fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, chills, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, abdominal pain and vomiting.” While the outbreaks may deter some travellers, Professor Rodrigo said the key to a safe journey is to be prepared. He said, “Informed and prepared travel is recommended [over] avoiding travel. Know the current outbreaks (dengue or otherwise) in the area you are visiting by looking up local news on the internet or travel web pages, be aware of how to prevent dengue and seek medical care if you fall ill.” While there is no vaccination for dengue fever, Aussies can take action by avoiding mosquito bites, with Health Direct recommending wearing loose long sleeves, pants, socks and covered shoes. Use a mosquito repellent, use fly screens and be extra cautious during daylight hours. Read more: https://au.yahoo.com/news/aussie-fami...
