Adults and children at least 12 years old who have traveler's diarrhoea due to certain bacteria can be treated with 200 mg tablets of Rifaximin. Rifaximin 550 mg tablets are used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (with diarrhoea) in adults with liver disease as well as to prevent episodes of hepatic encephalopathy, which are changes in thinking, behaviour, and personality brought on by an accumulation of toxins in the brain. Rifaximin belongs to the group of drugs known as antibiotics. By inhibiting the growth of the bacteria that cause diarrhoea, rifaximin cures irritable bowel syndrome and traveler's diarrhoea. By inhibiting the growth of bacteria that create toxins and may exacerbate liver illness, rifaximin treats hepatic encephalopathy.
