FUF Teaching Tips #10

Face-Up First Teaching Tips #10 Thanks for watching! BREASTSTROKE TEACHING PROGRESSION Two Up, Two Down Drill Tip #1 Teach breaststroke in stages. Face-Up First Breaststroke Progression Part 1:    • Breaststroke Progression Part 1   1. Starfish (Elementary Backstroke) 2. Kick-Only Starfish 3. Two kicks on front - two kicks on back Part 2:    • Breaststroke Progression Part 2   1. Two kicks, breathe (streamline arms) 2. Two kicks, pull and breathe 3. Full breaststroke This video shows Stage 3: two kicks on front, two kicks on back. Alternating face-up and face-down breaststroke kick develops good balance while learning breaststroke. Tip #2 Keep the knees under the water while on back. Reinforce keeping knees in line with hips and shoulders and pulling the heels under the body toward the bum. Then try to replicate that motion while on the front. This little guy is still learning and is in a bit of hurry. Tip #3 Take as long in each stage as necessary before moving on. In our group lessons, each swimmer knows where they are on the progression. When the workout calls for breaststroke, they each swim their own stage/drill. Practice makes habit.
