Hollywood Uncensored with Sam Rubin EP 115; Do actors always take the roll they want?
This is truly the all-star version of Hollywood Uncensored. The cast this week is even more insightful than usual. This extremely brilliant and successful panel includes: Paul Giamatti, the tremendously versatile and talented actor- both funny and dramatic. The Oscar nominee's new movie is called 'Barney's Version,' which won the Golden Lion at this year's Venice Film Festival. Virginia Madsen, the star of the movie "Sideways" is here. Next you can catch her in the art of love and red riding hood both out next year. Director Danny Boyle has about 26 Oscars just from Slumdog Millionaire alone. His fine new movie, creating tons of buzz is Hollywood, "127 Hours" starring one of the Oscar hosts, James Franco. John Hawkes is a proud nominee for a Film Independent Spirit Award for his work in what many are saying is one of the stand out films of the year, Winter's Bone. With such a successful panel this week, it only makes sense to wonder when they, themselves, felt "validated" as actors or directors. Is it when they were in a huge blockbuster? Or a high quality and meaningful independent film? Plus, we find out the shocking comment that a fan made to Virginia on the subway. Some movies, like Paul Giamatti's new movie "Barney's Version," can take up to a decade to make. But why are these movies so hard to make? Later, this discussion becomes more personal when we learn how actors really feel about playing roles in movies that they KNOW are bad! What do actors mean when they say that they are "in the moment?" Danny tells us what that phrase means in terms of James Franco's performance in "127 Hours." Amazingly, we learn how an actor being "in the moment" can actually help the production of a film. John Hawkes tell us about his out-of-body experience of being "in the moment" during a scene on stage. How interesting that stars actually get starstruck themselves. We watch a clip of Katy Perry's crazy reaction to seeing Angelina Jolia next to her on the red carpet. Which prompts the question, who makes our panel starstruck? We hear Virginia's sweet, but rather embarrassing story about meeting a certain legendary actor. Danny Boyle also dishes on a celebrity crush that he met on the red carpet! And let's not forget the legendary Crystal Ball predictions! Shocking as ever this week, we learn why actors will disappear, Victoria will become rich, and movies will become BIGGER.
