St Luke's Worship 03/05/2023 - Psalm 23:2
LENTEN SERMON SERIES Our Lenten sermon series this year is “The Lord is My Shepherd.” We will focus on one verse of Psalm 23 each week. Our main theme is the "Oasis" imagery of still waters and green pastures. God has created a place of blessing and restoration and invited us to come experience it. Having been blessed and restored, we are then sent out to share this blessing and restoration with the world. REFLECTION With our Lent sermon series on Psalm 23, "The Lord Is My Shepherd," we will be sending out 1-3 reflection questions after each week's sermon. The goal of these questions is to guide us all to think more deeply about the sermon and how it connects to our own lives. Here are the questions for The Second Sunday of Lent (Mar 5): The central verse for the week was Psalm 23:2 - “He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.” Fr. Jose reminded us that Psalm 23 is a psalm from the heart of a shepherd (David) to his Shepherd (God). Cattle are led from the back, pushed and driven forward. But sheep are led from the front because they can learn to recognize and trust their shepherd, as David learned to trust the Lord. Fr. Jose also described how Jesus gently led Nicodemus to himself (Jesus) as the true source of life. Besides the examples of David and Nicodemus, in what other ways do you see God helping people in the Bible learn to trust and follow him? How has God helped you learn to trust and follow him? Fr. Jose summarized his sermon as "Jesus leads and God provides." In order to let our Good Shepherd lead, we need to learn to let go of our own agendas and trust that his way leads to true life. Is there a particular area of your life where you sense God inviting you to let go of your own agenda and trust Him? What will it take for you to truly let go?
