The Federal Government of Nigeria recently proposed a plan to remove subsidy on premium motor spirit otherwise known as PMS. There are speculations that this action would see the pump price of petrol rising from N162 to a whopping N300 per litre. To cushion this effect, the government says it will render support to 40 million poor Nigerians with N5,000 stipend each for one year period. But the Nigerian Labour Congress says this action is not feasible. Gist Nigeria takes a look at the possible impact the removal of fuel subsidy would have on the average Nigerian and the economy.
