The Mystery of the Gospel / Unfaithfulness / Christ Must Increase, I Must Decrease / Radical Love
Christ was being revealed through the prophets, not just in what they did, but what they failed to do. God’s relationship with Israel, including their struggles with unrighteousness, was showing us our desperate need for Christ’s Salvation. When Jesus died for us on the Cross, our hearts are broken and lifted at the same time. It’s such a strange paradox, that is foolish to the unbelievers, but the faithful recognize it as the greatest act of love ever committed. The Scriptures show us a rebellious and unfaithful mankind, but Christ shows us that His anger is directed at the who is truly responsible for the suffering and death, the Devil and the Fallen. The darkness of this world is antithetical to God’s Nature, so He steps into His own Story to take the burden onto Himself. The gift of dominion over the earth, that mankind was tricked into relinquishing, our Lord and Savior set the stage to reclaim upon the Cross. (John 10:10-11) “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 12:24-26) “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also.
