Simple exercises allow guitar students to memorize fret-patterns for scales in a way that is not only better, but also faster. A simple scale (such as the Pentatonic), will help a guitar student memorize scale note names as well as, scale shapes and this is why the use of Pentatonic scales tends to work the best for guitar studies. The simple 5-note design of the Pentatonic functions in an easy to recall and uniform geometrical manner across the fingerboard, thus making the Pentatonic scale one of the easiest, (if not the easiest), scale that guitar players will learn. The Pentatonic scales uniform 5-tone construction (from top to bottom) will allow for quick memorization of each note position on the neck. Working on the Major & Minor Pentatonic shapes upward and downward played on just two guitar strings will allow for solid skill building along with the development of a solid working knowledge for all of the note names on the guitar neck.
