Heart Disease in Women: Understanding Your Risk and the Power of Prevention

On October 29, 2024, The Texas Heart Institute hosted the Her Heart Series, presented by WomenHeart. This impactful event in Houston addressed the critical issue of women's heart disease. Dr. Heather Pemberton, a cardiologist at The Texas Heart Institute Center for Cardiovascular Care, delivered a keynote on women-specific heart health risks and prevention.  Dr. Pemberton shares insights on prevention: Heart disease is a leading cause of death in women, often preventable with awareness. Women often struggle to recognize heart attack symptoms. Key risk factors: diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking, sedentary lifestyles. Menopause and pregnancy increase heart disease risks. Mental health, particularly depression, plays a significant role. Lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise, are key for prevention.
