Warren Hastings reforms Warren Hastings ended the first important work, "Diarchy" and removed Naiv Diwan Muhammad Raza Khan and Shitab Rai from their posts and prosecuted them for corruption. The civil work was now handed over to the East India Company. Appointed British Collector to collect Malguzari (tax) in each district. Free the Nawab from the government and reduced his pension from 32 lakh to 16 lakh. Removed treasury from Murshidabad and established it at Calcutta. Regulating Act (1773) The Governor of Bengal province was made the Governor General of the English regions of the whole of India and his term was fixed for 5 years. The governors of Madras and Bombay were placed under him. Warren Hastings was made the first Governor General of the English territories of India. A council of four members was formed to assist in the governorship of the Governor General. The term of the members was kept for 4 years. A Supreme Court was established in Calcutta in which a Chief Justice and three other judges were appointed. On 6 May 1775, Nandakumar was arrested and he was executed by the Supreme Court Supreme Court Judge Sir Iliza Impe. He was hanged on 5 August 1775 AD. Warren Hastings gave his support to William Wilkins by translating the Gita into English. James A., the publication of India's first newspaper 'The Bengal Gazette' in 1780 AD, under the reign of Warren Hastings. Was done by Hickey. In 1781, Warren Hastings established a madrasa in Calcutta. A Sanskrit school was established in Benares by Jonathan Duncan in 1782 AD, under the reign of Warren Hastings. The Asiatic Society of Bengal was founded by William Jones in 1784 AD. Pitt's India Act (1784) The India Act of Pitts was passed in 1784 to remove the defects of the regulating act. A Board of 6 Commissioners for Indian Affairs was established, which was named Board of Control. The number of members of the Governor General's council in India has been changed from 3 to 3. One place was given to the Chief of Army Staff. The governments of Madras and Bombay were completely subordinated to the Government of Bengal. Warren Hastings went to England on 1 February 1785, resigned in protest against Pitt's India Act. On reaching there, he was prosecuted in Parliament which continued till 1795. Finally, he was declared innocent. The company provided him a 4,000-pound annual pension. He died in 1818. Lord Macaulay wrote praisingly, "Warren Hastings broke the dual government. He handed over all the tasks to English hands and he established peace despite the chaos." According to Lord Curzon, "I suspect that in the entire history of public affairs a person has been so mercilessly accused, or so strongly prosecuted.
