MGS2: Coolant Rise Glitch Demonstration
A quick demonstration of the "coolant rise" glitch in MGS2. Other than the glitch, this strategy is taken straight from AnonymityHope's excellent No Save No Damage Big Boss run he's just uploaded. This area is where the glitch shines; it can get you through the crawling section between 2 and 4 seconds quicker. The coolant rise is used to stand up from a crawling position very quickly. The basic idea is that, while you have the coolant equipped, you start to stand, then immediately unequip the coolant. I believe the glitch is caused by there being no model animation for rising with the coolant equipped (as it's a first-person action), so when you unequip it switches to third-person and is forced to skip ahead to a fully standing position. In practice, you perform the technique by equipping the coolant then immediately rising and unequipping it. For this input to work, Coolant must be your last-equipped weapon. Because quick equip is triggered when you actually release R2, you can do this with the input "R2, R2+X", done as fast as you can. If you already have the coolant out, it's "R2+X" on its own. Done a little speedier, you can get out without being seen by that last guard. On the PAL version, you can get out pretty easily. Performed on North American MGS2 Substance on European Extreme difficulty, possible on all versions of MGS2.
