Water flow through upland vegetation types to assist hydrological modelling - Steph Bond (U Leeds)

Recording of BHS Pennines and Water@Leeds Christmas Lectures from Thursday December 17th 2020 given by Eleanor Pearson from the University of Leeds. Field monitoring of overland flow through differently-managed grassland habitats has shown that the roughness of vegetation can significantly alter the velocity of overland flow. This talk will give an overview of my research into surface roughness, including how seasonal changes to vegetation and land management could have significant knock-on consequences for flood management. I will also discuss why these factors are important in modelling flood risk and introduce how I intend to use my field research to model flood risk in the coming months.
