Create a Fertile, Pest-Free Garden Ecosystem by Building Habitat - Garden Master Course
https://gardenmastercourse.com Discover the Garden Master Course, taught by the experienced Master Garden Course instructor Helen Atthowe. Learn about regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and go beyond the teachings of Masanobu Fukuoka. This garden master course offers a unique perspective on gardening without pesticides, using nature's rhythms for healthier and more productive food growing systems. In this garden master course excerpt, we take a closer look at the strategy 2 of habitat building, both above and below ground. Six organic farms are evaluated and their use of the 14 different habitat building tools and strategies are discussed. We talk about the importance of providing the right kind of diversity, as the quality of diversity is more important than the quantity. The design of farm diversity depends on several factors, including the scale of the farm, the farming landscape, economics, and goals. The crop diversity and cover crop strategies used by the six farms are also explored, with a focus on the percent of total farm in cover crops each year and how the cover crops are managed. The priority for three of the farms is to grow their own fertility, and Helen discusses the importance of having all farms focus on this goal for a better planet and how we must avoid practices that decrease biodiversity like the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, reason why it was necessary to make this update to the master garden course.
