Full Commission Meeting:    • 01/04/22 City Commission   Recording the interaction and letting the public see it is only half the process to accountability. The public also needs to know that City Leaders are aware of the issues. Then the excuses for inaction can be ignored and everyone knows where they stand. Commissioner Sellers commented during the meeting that immediate change is not always the best change. I do not disagree, but would counter that sometimes immediate change is required by the circumstances we find ourselves in. If we cannot have the immediate change on the streets, then it needs to begin now, at the commission level. The Lawrence Police Department needs to be reminded that regardless of their 'officer safety' concerns, they work for us... and Kansas is an 'at will employment' state. Create a department that is highly respected and supported in all neighborhoods and you will not have a recruiting issue, regardless of the fires of rage burning in other cities. Lawrence Police could set a new standard for the entire nation to model... #could
