The fitness marketing machine has gotten so huge that the lines between good and bad nutrition information have been significantly blurred. But in reality, there are just a few simple nutrition rules that you need to follow if you want to build muscle. And calories are indeed king when it comes to building muscle. If you get this wrong then you might as well stop everything else, because it will be a waste of your time. One after determining the correct amount of calories should you even begin to think about the macronutrient ratios (carbohydrate, protein and fat). And here again, the marketing machine has worked overtime to convince a lot of people that they need more protein to build muscle than they really do. Those who follow this advice almost always end up eating too few carbohydrates and their workouts suffer because of it. These are two of the biggest mistakes that I see when it comes to muscle-building nutrition but there are more. I was about to begin a career in business and just wanted to fill out my clothes and be strong and confident. I read a lot online and thought I was a “hardgainer” so I followed a lot of bad advice and got really fat.
