Simple Guitar Hack Makes Learning E Chord EFFORTLESS 🎸 Free Guitar Lessons: https://jimmydillon.com/free Exploring the E Chord Shape - Moving Up and Down the Neck Hey guitar friends! I wanted to share some cool ways to use the E chord shape that can add some fresh sounds to your playing. I start with our standard E chord in first position, but with a slight finger configuration change - using my third finger on the second fret of the A string with my pinky tucked under, and my second finger handling that G# note. This alternative fingering opens up some possibilities! When you want something more twangy and open, you can slide this same shape up to the seventh fret while letting the low E, B, and high E strings ring open. It creates this beautiful, resonant sound without changing anything except position. From there, you can move to the B chord (your five chord) by sliding up to the ninth fret with the same shape. Then hit your four chord by moving down to the seventh fret for an A chord variation. All while keeping those open strings ringing! In practice, you might hang out in E during a verse, then slide right up to the A chord at the seventh fret for your four chord, then up to the ninth fret for the B chord turnaround. It sounds fantastic and gives you freedom to move around the neck. I also show another variation where you can use the standard E chord fingering, but tuck your pinky onto the second fret of the G string to get an Esus, then lift it off to return to E major. This trick works on all three positions and implies a four chord in a really effective way. This technique reminds me of that Springsteen tune... actually it's in a million different songs! You can even go chromatic with it like in Cream's "I'm So Glad." Hope you enjoy experimenting with this one chord shape up and down the neck! It's a simple concept that can really expand your playing options.
