Channel Ten | Promo Montage - (January 2015)
#ThrowbackThursday In retrospect, Ten experienced a brief resurgence in 2015. The network was still in a dire financial state and was continuing to suffer from the fallout of it's botched News Revolution of 2011 (among other things). However, thanks to the unexpected successes of both "I'm a Celebrity" and "Gogglebox", Ten's primetime performance began to improve ever so slightly. The BBL continued to be a consistent ratings juggernaut and resulted in Ten achieving competitive ratings during the 2014/15 summer non-ratings period. Also, 2015 was the year HYBPA started to become the show we all know and love today! Season 2 of HYBPA (which aired the previous year) achieved ratings in the 100K-200K range and was underperforming in it's timeslot. However, Ten persevered with the show and made the decision to move it to it's current timeslot of 8.30pm Monday at the end of the 2014 season. This resulted in HYBPA gaining a new audience, and the 2015 season saw the show consistently receive ratings above 600K. It's not acknowledged anywhere near as much as it should be, but 2015 proved to be a pivotal year for Ten. "HYBPA", "I'm A Celebrity" and "Gogglebox" continue to be among Ten's highest-rating shows to this very day. Without those two shows debuting that year and HYBPA becoming a ratings success, who knows how Ten would be faring now. The network may not have been still in existence in that timeline. Think about it. In a timeline where HYBPA, "I'm A Celebrity" and "Gogglebox" failed to build an audience and were all cancelled, would CBS have bought the network in 2017? Food for thought.
