Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost October 1, 2023 As We Gather: Paul may be holed up in a Roman jail, chained for the sake of the Gospel, but the beloved apostle will not be silenced. Sure to face a certain end, he is still committed to living a life – up, in and out. Where, in the centuries since Paul gave his prison witness, countless Christian men and women have been encouraged and blessed by his letter to the Philippians, often called the “Epistle of Joy.” By his Spirit-inspired and Spirit-filled letter, the Church has been encouraged in their life of witness and faith. So may we, “called, gathered and enlightened” by the same Spirit. The Gospel witness goes on, and so our lives lived – up, in and out – in Jesus’ name!
