Prelude on "When He Cometh" (Jewels). Bay Shore Church Sunday Worship Service October 13, 2024

Prelude: Prelude on "When He Cometh" (Jewels). Charles Callahan This Sunday, October 13 in Worship "Like Little Children" Mark 10: 13 - 16 Every time we baptize a child at church, we remember this familiar story in which Jesus welcomes little children to him after his disciples try to send them away. This Sunday we’ll consider what it might mean for us to “receive the kingdom of God as a little child.” What do the children in our lives have to teach us about faith? How might our faith journey involve embracing our inner child sometimes? We'll also continue our celebration of World Communion Sunday (one week late) with breads of the world as we gather at the table. This Sunday we’ll feature our Bay Shore Bells playing throughout the service. All their pieces were arranged by Jason Krug, a young composer who since 2006 has published over five-hundred handbell compositions. You’ll hear them play Breathe on Me, Breath of God as well as Mr. Krug’s original arrangements called Elysium (paradise), Far and Wide and Consolation. Our Chancel Choir will be singing O Love by Elaine Hagenberg, a lovely piece that has the following poignant story "George Matheson, a Scottish Presbyterian minister, found himself at age 20 alone when he went blind and his fiancé decided to break off the marriage. She left him. He turned to the Lord. In the darkness of the moment, he wrote the lyrics to this hymn in five minutes. It never needed any editing.” And you’ll be able to join us in singing hymns of the 1940’s to go along with our decade themed celebration of our church history. A multifaceted communion Sunday to be sure, so be sure and join us.
