This compelling blend of academic curiosity, pagan tradition, and slow-building dread has long been overlooked, despite being one of the most intelligently written supernatural works between the wars. Eleanor Scott was the pen name of Helen Magdalen Leys (1892–1965), a British writer and academic. Best known for Randalls Round, her rare foray into supernatural fiction, Scott also wrote historical novels and educational texts. She was educated at Somerville College, Oxford, and taught at Cheltenham Ladies’ College. Though largely forgotten today, her ghost stories have gained renewed appreciation for their subtle psychological tension, scholarly framing, and connections to folk traditions and ancient rites.
