The film centers on cross-country traveling corporate downsizer Ryan Bingham (Clooney), a man whose job is to travel the country and fire others from their jobs. Desperate to show his job isn't as easy as she thinks, Ryan proposes to take the young hire across the country to see first hand the importance of face-to-face meetings with those they must fire.
