After seven weeks in Ephesians, we move to the Gospel text this week for worship and the sermon. In these selected verses from Mark chapter 7, Jesus addresses the Pharisees and scribes first, then the crowd, and finally his disciples, as he helps people confront the inconsistent – and sometimes irrational – nature of humanity. How is it that we’ve worshiped God with our lips and not our hearts? How have we focused on human tradition, rather than God’s commandments?
