The Last Days and How to Live in Them 2 Timothy 3:1-17 Introduction Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suffered tremendous persecution just for being a conservative and for refusing to bow to the political left. In his autobiography he documents horrible false accusations and lies fomented against him by Iranians, Islamic Terrorists (Hamas, Hezbollah, etc.) but also by press and political enemies both Israeli, USA, and United Nations. There is evil in this world – these are the Last Days. 2 Timothy 3 is an incredibly relevant prophecy! Perilous times are coming! (Vv. 1-9) “Last” days are the “Last” days of human history – we are in them. People will be evil (Vv. 2-5) – 19 different, specific, descriptions, and characteristics of the evil and lawlessness of people. Evil People will prey on the vulnerable – and the vulnerable will be incredibly vulnerable! Then there is the illustration of Jannes and Jambres – who were they and why them? Prepare for persecution (Vv. 10-13) YHWH delivered Paul – He will deliver Christians today as well! But prepare for persecution – it is coming. Evil men and imposters will grow worse and worse! Deceiving and being deceived Prepare with the Scriptures (Vv. 14-17) Timeless Truth YHWH prophetically warns and prepares the world for the days and times in which we are now living. It should be no surprise to us to see and hear what we are watching take place in the world before our very eyes. It is hard to watch. It is devastating to see the President of the United States of America bumble around and not be able to put together a coherent sentence. It is hard to watch as obvious corruption and injustice permeates our government and justice systems. But it is also wonderful to be assured that YHWH has clearly prophesied that these things are going to take place and that like Jannes and Jambres these peoples’ times are short-lived, and their corruption will soon be exposed. Living Lesson Don’t be frightened by the evil that you see constantly being exposed around us. Don’t be alarmed or surprised by it either. It is precisely what the Scriptures have told us will take place at the end of the age and that is where we are right now. So, immerse yourself in the Scriptures and make sure you know what the Word of YHWH tells you to be doing at this stage of human history. YHWH has not left us without instruction, and He will not leave us without His presence, guidance, and help. Rest in Him and His peace.
