Today we are making Chana Daal Aor Karele Ki Recipe (Chana Daal with Bitter Gourd). This recipe is a perfect blend of the rich flavor of lentils with the slightly bitter yet delicious taste of karela (bitter gourd). A wholesome and satisfying dish, this is great to pair with roti or rice. Ingredients: Bitter gourd (کریلے / करेला): 1/2 kg Chana daal (چنا دال / चना दाल): 400 grams Onions (پیاز / प्याज): 2 medium Tomatoes (ٹماٹر / टमाटर): 3 medium Ginger, garlic paste (ادرک لہسن کا پیسٹ / अदरक लहसुन पेस्ट): 2 tbsp Oil (تیل / तेल): 1/2 cup Salt (نمک / नमक): 1 tbsp Turmeric powder (ہلدی / हल्दी): 1 tsp Chilli powder (سرخ مرچ / लाल मिर्च): 1/2 tbsp Cumin seeds (زیرہ / जीरा): 1 tsp Green chillis and fresh coriander (ہری مرچیں اور تازہ دھنیا / हरी मिर्च और ताज़ा धनिया) for garnishing Instructions: Fry bitter gourds: In a pan, add 1/4 cup of oil and 1/2 tsp salt, fry the karela until slightly crisp, then set aside. Prepare masala: In another pan, heat 1/2 cup of oil and add onion paste. Fry for a few minutes, then add ginger and garlic paste. Fry for 2-3 more minutes. Add tomato paste and all the spices (salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, cumin seeds). Cook until the oil separates. Combine with Chana Daal: Add the boiled chana daal to the masala. Cook for 5 minutes to blend the flavors. Add Karela: Add the fried karela to the mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes. Garnish: Garnish with green chillis and fresh coriander. Serve hot with roti or rice!
