Doberman tracks a deer!

Pat shot a deer but didn't see a sapling in his sights that had to have been thinner than his cross hairs. The bullet went through the tree before hitting the deer and the deer took off. He called me to bring Spock to track it. By the time we got him there the track was aged 2 1/2 hours and wet from the rain. Before this we trained him with the Patterson methods but he hasn't advanced to aged nor has he ever tried wet, leaves, blood, or tracking an animal. He took us a little further than the experienced hunters/trackers could. Unfortunately the deer got away but Spock still did an amazing job. We were so proud of him. We're thinking tracking titles are in our future! A special thanks to Pam of Cozy Coats & More for creating the hunter orange coat for Spock. It kept him safe, warm, and dry while tracking. Note: Do not lecture us about hunting. We do it for the meat, not for sport or trophies. We try to do it as humanely as possible, Pat has passed up deer that he couldn't get a good quick-killing shot on, but sometimes flukes happen, like a tree smaller than your gun cross hairs.
