A deadly shooting inside a Jewish Community Center stuns a Kansas suburb. Police are investigating i

(13 Apr 2014) Three people died Sunday after shootings at a Jewish community center campus and retirement community in suburban Kansas City, and a 15-year-old boy is in critical condition. Overland Park city spokesman Sean Reilly says two people died at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City campus in Overland Park and one was killed at Village Shalom, which is a retirement community that is several blocks away from the center. Overland Park Medical Center spokeswoman Christine Hamele says a 15-year-old boy who was brought from the scene of the Jewish Community Center is in critical condition. One person of interest is in custody, Overland Park Fire Department spokesman Jason Rhodes said. "A suspect was taken into custody by our department without incident in the parking lot of a Valley Park Elementary school. At this time we have three confirmed fatalities," added John Douglas, Chief of Police, Overland Park Police Overland Park police received multiple calls at about 1 p.m. Sunday regarding a shooting at the center's campus and retirement community, public information officer Gary Mason said in a news release. A news conference is scheduled for Sunday evening. Authorities didn't immediately release further details about the shootings, including whether the center and retirement community were targeted because of religion.
