Mapping the Future Nishinari_trailer.mov
Nishinari, one of the districts in Osaka, has been labeled with negative images for a long time; there are many flophouses, homeless, Buraku (A discriminated community of descendants of outcast groups), and Korean-Japanese communities. Currently, a new strategy for changing social system has begun in this deep South Osaka to connect the concept of "All". "All" has dual meanings; one is "all the people living in Nishinari", such as day laborers, new-comers, homeless, the disabled, and old widowers and widows. They have to be accepted as people who compose the community. The other meaning is "all things for living in Nishinari", such as housing, jobs, health, nursing care, and environment. Filmed over two years, this documentary captures all of these things progressing. When they see turned around, they see that the last has become the first.
