Sharing a kidney - Part 2 of a 4 part series on transplant

Hope Woodside, from Fox 13 News in Utah, continues her series on organ donation. Her last segment focused on children and the gift of life. This segment highlights the amazing opportunity of living donation. The first successful kidney transplant between identical twin brothers was performed in 1965. Fifteen years later, in 1970, two brothers in Utah faced a similar situation. Eloy knew very little about living kidney donation, but he did know that was his opportunity to help his brother. Without hesitation, he volunteered to give Fred one of his kidneys. No one imagined that kidney would last for over 45 years. When Darrin learned that a co-worker needed a kidney, he felt the need to help. Tessa, his co-worker, was surprised by his offer to help. After several conversations and emails, Tessa gave him the information to be tested. Darrin turned out to be a perfect match and now Tessa is living life to the fullest with a little help from Darrin's kidney.
