This movie is based on Anita Morgan's dream of escaping her Caribbean island home, where she has an abusive father and no future. Anita, who is a descendant of a famous pirate, Henry Morgan and feels she could have a better life in Cuba. Anita finds out her father is preparing to sell her off to one of his friends to get money for himself. When an American man, Bob Wade (John Holland), comes to her island and buys pearls from her, she falls in love with him. Anita later finds out there is a plot to trick Bob out of his money and kill him. Anita then makes plans to save Bob. Anita eventually runs away from her island, hides out on Bob's boat so they can finally be together.
