Shaukat Jung Siraj-ud-Daula's commander, Mir Jafar Siraj-ud-Daula's Diwan, Rai Durlabh Mahavat Chandra, the famous Jagat Seth of Nadia, Bengal Diwan Amin Chandra (a Sikh merchant who was lured by the British with ₹300,000 in cash and a 5% share of the Nawab's treasury) On June 4, 1756, Siraj captured the British factory at Cossimbazar. On June 17, 1756, Siraj-ud-Daula's military officers surrounded the Kolkata fort. Then, the British Governor of Kolkata, Roger Drake, took refuge with some merchants, women, and children in Phulta Island, a tidal island located downstream of the Hooghly River. Siraj-ud-Daula renamed Kolkata Alinagar and left for Murshidabad, entrusting it to his representative, Manik Chandra. Black Hole (June 20) 1756) The cell measured 18 feet long and 14 feet 10 inches wide. It is said that Siraj-ud-Daula imprisoned 146 Englishmen in this cell on June 20, 1756, during a brutally hot summer. On June 21, all but 23 of them died. Among the survivors was Z. Holwell, who secured this event a place in the pages of history. Treaty of Alinagar (February 9, 1757) A land army led by Colonel Clive and Major Clippatrick and a navy led by Admiral Watson arrived in Kolkata. Together, they freed the refugees from Phulta. By bribing Manik Chandra, they regained control of Kolkata and forced Siraj-ud-Daula to sign a new treaty, known as the Treaty of Alinagar. This treaty stipulated the continuation of the use of dastak. The Company was allowed to control Calcutta as per its wishes. They were allowed to fortify their settlements and mint their own coins. But the British were not satisfied with this, and the stage was set for a new war known as the Battle of Plassey. 👉Battle of Plassey (June 23, 1757) Plassey is located in the Nadia district of Bengal, on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. On Thursday, June 23, 1757, the two armies faced off on the battlefield of Plassey. Siraj-ud-Daula's local opponents supported the British. Only Mir Madan and Mohanlal challenged the British on behalf of the Nawab, but they were ultimately successful. With Mir Madan's death, Siraj-ud-Daula was left helpless and forced to flee the battlefield. At the time of this battle, the British Prime Minister was William Pitts, while the Mughal Emperor was Alamgir II. And the Nawab of Bengal was Siraj-ud-Daula. During the battle, the Nawab's elephant was shot in the leg, causing it to panic and flee. He was assassinated by Mir Jafar's son, Mir Bahadur. According to K.M. Padikkar, the Battle of Plassey was a bargain in which some selfish people in Bengal sold the Nawab to the British. Nabinchandra Sen has said that after the Battle of Plassey, India was exploited and a period of dark sorrow began.
