Scales and Arpeggios: MIDI in Cubase
Here's another bonus project I did. I was watching videos of "Scales and Arpeggios", from Walt Disney's 20th film "The Aristocats", when I felt the desire to learn how to play the song myself. Since I was in this class at the time, I took advantage of the tools available to me and I made this cover. Again, let me say that this wasn't an assigned project I had to do. For reference, I used mostly this video: • Video There were a few other "tutorial" videos I may have looked at. I realize that this isn't a perfect recreation of the piano part played in the film, the one in the recording by the Sherman brothers. If you want to hear how the original pino part sounded (albeit with the voices), go to video "E6eDOcsfPz0". At least mine is cleaner-sounding. Instead of using the Korg Triton's "Grand Piano" sound (which can be heard in a few of my other videos) I used the "XXL Grand Piano" VSTi (virtual instrument) piano patch/voice for this project. "Scales and Arpeggios" was written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman in 1970. While the person playing the piano was likely one of the two of them (or both, considering the bass at the end), it was originally sung by Liz English as Marie (white), Dean Clark as Berlioz (black), Robie Lester as Duchess (though her speaking voice was Eva Gabor), and Gary Dubin as Toulouse (orange).
