AMRUM – NOW only in theaters! #AMRUM Amrum, 1945. Shortly before the end of the war, Hille (Laura Tonke), a mother of three, still firmly believes in victory. Life on Amrum at that time is anything but easy. Her twelve-year-old son, Nanning (Jasper Billerbeck), works every day with his best friend, Hermann (Kian Köppke), in the fields of farmer Tessa (Diane Kruger), while overhead, Allied bombers fly toward the German mainland to finally bring the enemy to their knees. Anyone who wants to survive, who wants to provide for their family, has to get to work – and Nanning does just that: He gathers driftwood at night in the bright moonlight, hunts rabbits in the dunes, and steals eggs from wild geese. But in the village, he remains an outsider. As an "outsider" from the big city, he is met with suspicion, and mocked at school. Moreover, his heavily pregnant mother clings to the Führer with unwavering loyalty, even when everyone knows long ago that there is nothing left to gain. When the war finally ends and news of Hitler's death reaches the island via radio, Hille goes into labor. Shortly after the birth of her fourth child, she sinks into deep sadness and refuses all food. When she expresses a great longing for a slice of white bread with butter and honey, Nanning finds new hope. He is certain that his mother can only regain her strength if he grants her this wish. But where can he get it when it's impossible to even steal it on the entire island? Bartering, day-long treks across the mudflats, seal hunting – nothing is too much trouble for him. As he gathers ingredient after ingredient, Nanning is confronted not only with the harsh realities of war, but also with a family secret that will change his life forever.
