Buzzing Saddle (Guitar/Bass) Fix

Buzzing Saddle (Guitar/Bass) Fix

An uncommon but not rare problem. The size of the slot at the contact points of the string (nut and saddle) have to be very accurate. Otherwise, if there's too much room, the string can vibrate and rattle in the slot, causing all sorts of issues -- including a sitar-like buzzing sound. Sometimes this can also be the result of poor break angle. On acoustics, routing the bridge down and slotting the bridge can provide the necessary break angle behind the saddle to eliminate that issue. On electric guitars and basses, the metal saddles themselves can be the culprit. The solution is to use the most closely sized nut file possible, in comparison to the buzzing string. A tighter, well-fit slot will hold the string securely and eliminate the extra room that allows the string to rattle and buzz against the "walls" on either side.
